The CV library lets members keep five CVs ready to send

Members hold up to five CVs and pick the right one per application.

The CV library holds up to five CV variants in a member's profile, so they choose the right one at the point of applying rather than uploading the same file again. Variants can be tailored to different kinds of role. Outplacement candidates and bootcamp learners apply more, and apply better.

What the CV library does

Applying is where good intentions go to die. Anything that turns a two-minute action into a ten-minute one costs applications, and hunting for the right file is exactly that kind of friction.

  • Members hold up to five CV variants in their profile.
  • Variants can be tailored to different kinds of role rather than being one generic document.
  • At the point of applying, a member selects which variant to send, or uploads another.
  • No re-uploading the same CV for every application.
  • The library saves independently of the rest of the job seeker profile, so members always know what has been saved.

That last point came out of a wider profile tidy-up, which separated match preferences from the library so the two no longer share a save action.

What it means for your community

Members apply with the right document instead of the one they had to hand. Anyone applying across two directions, which is most people in transition, has been maintaining separate CVs in a folder somewhere and picking wrong under time pressure.

An outplacement candidate is the clearest case. Someone made redundant from an operations role may be applying to both operations and project management, and those need different documents. Holding both, and choosing at the moment of applying, means the version that lands is the one written for that reader. Time to placement is what the client is judging, and applications that arrive well targeted convert better than applications that merely arrive.

A bootcamp learner has the same need for a different reason. They typically have one CV built around prior experience and another built around what they have just been taught, and which is right depends entirely on the role. Keeping both live means a learner is not rewriting under pressure the night before a deadline.

What it means for your team

Careers conversations get more concrete. When a member holds several variants, a coach can talk about which document suits which application rather than about whether their single CV is good enough, and CV work becomes a targeted exercise instead of an abstract one.

It also removes a support burden. Re-uploading is one of those small failures that generates messages, and messages of that kind crowd out the coaching your team is actually for. Fewer of them means more room for the work that moves outcomes, which you can then see in member analytics as applications rather than as visits that went nowhere.

Where roles send applicants to an external form or applicant tracking system, the selected CV goes with the application through whichever route the role uses, so the choice is not lost at the handover.

It is worth telling members the library exists, because it is the kind of feature people only discover at the moment they needed it an hour ago. A line in a welcome message or an announcement card on the board does more for adoption than the feature does on its own.

Why five and not unlimited?

Five covers the realistic number of directions a person is genuinely applying in, without turning the choice at application time into another decision to agonise over. The point of the library is to make applying faster. A list of twenty variants would reintroduce exactly the hesitation it exists to remove, and in practice people maintain two or three properly and let the rest go stale.

Getting started

The CV library sits in the job seeker profile, in its own tab alongside details and skills, and members can add variants there or at the point of applying. There is nothing for admins to switch on. The marketplace admin guide covers the member experience and the knowledge base answers profile questions. The feature is recorded in the CV library changelog entry.

If application quality is what you are trying to lift, the job board for outplacement services and job board for skills bootcamps pages cover the wider workflow. Spacewalk runs a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
